Y’all, The Local Bookmobile, is a non-profit mobile bookstore organization located in Birmingham, Alabama. Y’all advocates for literacy among children and teenagers in Birmingham Metro-City school systems that lack educational funding. The bookstore operates out of a renovated food truck, so customers can “order” their book of choice from the service window. Y’all is available for students, teachers, book fairs, and other events in the city.

It’s evident when kids struggle with reading comprehension skills, especially when it’s tied to economic or social disadvantages. 43% of people with low literacy skills live in poverty, 20% of adults in the United States read at or below the fifth grade level, and after COVID-19, literacy rates fluctuated across Birmingham, and left many students behind. Strong reading skills are essential for living a fulfilling life and creating a fair future for the next generation. Y’all, The Local Bookmobile, aims to solve this problem by going straight to their audience.
