Black and White Linocut

This was our first project in printmaking, and our objective was to create a piece related to a cliche. I chose the cliche of “star-crossed lovers” but didn’t want to make it too cliche. The narrative presented in this piece is of two crows representing death, as one crow chases after the other. Similar to Romeo and Juliet, they are doomed due to conflicting circumstances but are meant to be together. The two crows are seen holding stars in their mouth to represent this cliche.

The motion of a ribbon circling the subjects is also based on the red string theory. As this was my first time doing a linocut print, and I used the linoleum texture to emulate the rays protruding from the stars. This piece is titled “In Another Life.”
